Art and Craft

Growing Creativity in your Children

Creativity is a vital component of your child’s happiness and health, so it’s important to treat it as a core skill. It doesn’t just refer just to music or art, although arts and crafts can help your child to become more creative.
Provide your child with the resources she needs to express herself creatively. She should have plenty of time for child-directed, imaginative play, and you can also work together with her to develop her sense of creativity.

If it’s been raining and your child can’t head outside for constructive play, you can bring the fun indoors. Gather several rocks with your child, and together you can create works of art from simple pebbles.

You will need:

  • A few small rocks
  • Water
  • Sponges or paintbrushes
  • Acrylic paint
  • Magic markers
  • Old margarine containers
  • Newspapers to work on top of
  • A bottle of white glue

Help your child to:

  • Clean off the rocks and allow them to dry.
  • Decide what you’ll create together – animals are very popular.
  • Paint the rocks with colors, designs or animals.

When the painting is done and the paint is dry, seal the rock using water and white glue. Mix them together and brush the solution onto the rocks. This gives it a clear seal. Now she will have a piece of art she’s created herself. Paint some more rocks together, and save her favorites after you and she have sealed them.
